FOR A FISTFUL OF DOLLARS...OR LESS:LOW BUDGET DIGITAL MOVIE-MAKING WITH LEWIS TEAGUE "I've always been frustrated with the size of movie crews – The Jewel of the Nile had a crew of over 400 – and how that size inhibits creativity. One of the director’s daily problems is to overcome inertia. The heavier the freight train, the harder it is to get it moving. I wanted to see how fast, creative and energetic I could be." — Lewis Teague
This past fall veteran film and television director Lewis Teague (Navy Seals, Cujo) set out to make his first short, testing an assignment he gives film students: Recreate an emotional experience in a fictional setting. He wanted to see how simply and inexpensively he could make a movie using all digital technology and Internet resources available to today’s no-budget filmmaker. He also wanted to question all the conventional beliefs about how a movie should be made and how it impacts crew, cast and budget. The result is Cante Jondo, a music-infused Spanish-language drama about two gypsy brothers in Barcelona. Join us for a screening of this new short and Lewis Teague’s up-close and personal insights into what is exciting and different about filmmaking today. From script and budget to shooting and editing, this primer promises to shed light on do-it-yourself digital filmmaking, especially for anyone with limited resources who wants to tell a personal story.
